A Short Reflection on a Friend’s Departure

I said good-bye today to a very long time friend and his wife and kids.  It has been an absolute joy and pleasure to see Micah grow from within the student ministry to being a student minister.  What a journey God has brought him and his family.  From a lanky little guy who was into basketball, to a talented musician, to a student band leader, to an adult worship leader, and now to a student minister.  Through a relationship with a young woman who God truly brought along his path to complete him, and all the ups and downs that come with it.  Micah has been a rock-solid friend and the difference in our ages never mattered to me.  His love for Christ is infectious and I’ve loved watching him constantly seek Him out through his many different choices and struggles.  I can only ponder this Scripture as Micah takes his next step in the great adventure of God’s calling to make disciples.  If I have ever seen this verse lived out, it is in Micah and Karis.  “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose.”  His purpose for the Farish’s and in each of us who follow Jesus is to go and make disciples.  And they are going and they are making disciples.  They accept God’s call and obey it.  I’m so proud for all your successes…in your family, education, and calling.  May we all see this example of our brother in Christ and do likewise.  The pain of your moving away is tough, but the thrill of seeing you follow Jesus is indescribable.  God bless you as you move to Ft. Worth.  I’ll see you soon!
